Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Stir in the tablespoon of salt.
Bring to a boil and cook for 18–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork tender.
Drain the potatoes well and let them sit in the colander for 2–3 minutes so excess moisture evaporates.
Return the potatoes to the warm pot.
Add the butter, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Mash until mostly smooth.
Slowly pour in the milk until you reach your desired consistency.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Garnish with fresh parsley and an extra pat of butter before serving.
